JALAPENO APPLE PIE

I don’t know why, but it works!  People go crazy for this unexpected combination!  the sweet apples play nicely with a little heat from the jalapeños!  bake this up and take it to your next party, but be sure to have the recipe handy because people will be asking for it! Make it easy on yourself and use canned apple pie filling.

PIE FILLING
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F Spread jalapeno jelly into the bottom of pie shell.
  2. In a bowl, toss apples with lemon juice.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and brown sugar.
  4. Sprinkle sugar mixture over apples, toss and spoon into pastry shell.
  5. Sprinkle jalapeno pepper over apples.
TOPPING
  1. Combine sugar, flour and butter with a pastry blender to form crumbly mixture.
  2. Stir in grated cheese.
  3. Sprinkle over pie.
  4. Bake 45 minutes, or until gold and bubbly.
Recipe Notes

*IF you want to bypass cutting the apples up, just open a can of filling and stir the jalapeños in.

*Strong cheddar can be used in place of the Monterrey Jack.  If you use Monterrey jack with jalapeños in it already be mindful of how many jalapeños you use in the apple filling, unless you like it Caliente! Monterrey jack lends to a more creamy overall flavor.  Cheddar will be more tangy.

*Any hot pepper jelly will work.

*If you use tart shells instead of a full pie crust start checking it at 30 minutes for  doneness.
