Mummy Dearest

Honestly though…

I don’t understand how I’m still married because…

Well…

Over the years I’ve done things.  Intentionally done things…

…and now I have rules.  Halloween rules.  Mark is 100% off limits to scare.

That rule came up Year 1.

Because, unfortunately, the first time I tried I really scared him so badly…

See him.  That’s “The Count.”  I bought him our first Halloween and was so excited to show Mark.  I pulled him out of the box and put him together and decided the best place to surprise Mark was to put “The Count” in…

…in the shower. Behind the shower curtain.

Yes.  Yes I did.

Back then we had a full cloth shower curtain, and I couldn’t wait to hear how excited Mark would be when he pulled that shower curtain back and got a look at “our” first Halloween decoration.

See, I had no clue he might not…

…you know…

…adore “The Count”.

When he came home from work we chit-chatted then announced he was getting a shower.

I stood giggling to myself by the door waiting to hear him fall in love with “The Count.”

…umm.

Sometimes, you know, life surprises you.

Maybe some of you might have heard this story before…

Maybe some of you already have it figured out.

First came the scream.  It hung in the air and echoed off the shower tiles.

Then came the

Pop

Pop

Pop

…of the shower curtain being pulled off the shower rings.

…then the shower curtain rod came crashing down.

It was at this point I began to realize maybe putting “The Count” in the shower might not have been the best idea.

Needless to say, we made it through that first Halloween.

…well, with some rules.

Rule number 2 is NO SNAKES.

Rule number 3 is “If anything new comes into the house I am supposed to let him know what it is and where it is.”

Rule number 4 is “if that %#*@$^ Count comes out of the box I’m to let him know immediately.”

The wages of sin and all that… I’ll be paying for “The Count” for the rest of my marriage.

So, when I made my “Mummy Dearest” cake I was sure to tell Mark exactly what it was and where it was.  I didn’t want…  you know… a breach of our agreement.

Its a creepy looking cake.

It’s chocolate cake with Pumpkin Spice Ganache.  Pumpkin Spice Ganache is no special amazing new recipe.  I found some Pumpkin Spice Baking Chips at the store and decided to throw them into the ganache in place of some of the white chocolate.  It made a nice subtle flavor…  and a fun orange color.

Enjoy my time lapse of the cake.  It’s 6 hours condensed to 15 minutes.

  1. Mummy Dearest is by far the creepiest Halloween decoration I’ve seen and the fact that it’s a freaking cake is truly amazing! I’ve said it before Scott, you are a mad genius and your wonderful husband it totally justified having those rules. LOVE the video! It’s so cool to see what goes in to making your creations.

  2. My darling – you are nothing short of amazing!! I adore you for so many reasons, but your talent and twisted sense of humor are certainly in the top five!! ❤️❤️❤️ Brilliant work! Love you so!!
